Is: Darth Regier building his Sabre's empire more efficiently? Buffalo's GM is being criticized for moving to solely video-based scouting.

That doesn't sound smart to me. That sounds like wishful thinking.

I think it is a step forward, and two steps back. Innovative, yes, but video-scouting should be used to compliment in-person scouting. Perhaps the video-scouting could help pro-scouts better decide which games/players to go and watch; a pre-scouting exercize.

I agree with garfield. Use video as an aid to see if someone is worth looking at, but the real scouting has to be done in person to get a feel for the players mannerisms, personallity, etc. You just have to see the guy in person.

Video killed the scouting star. In all seriousness, sign me up for that job...getting paid to sit on my couch and watch hockey...no problem.

I remember when the Islander's used thier first round pick on Dumont. Local sports writers were doing all sorts of crazy things, even going so far as to call him the next Mike Bossy. He turned out to be the next David Volek. ZING! As far as the video scouting, anything to cut corners. Like some commenters on the Sabres blog said, it'll cut travel time and expenses, and cut down on the amount of scouts an organization needs. I think when an orginazation tries cut corners it blows up in thier face.
