No real surprise as Roy Keane announces his retirement.: Despite the article saying it is a "shock announcement" anyone who is interested in Keane's career, or football in the UK and Ireland must have been aware that this was on the cards.
Without a doubt Keane was one of the greatest players ever. He may not have had the inborn talent, but he had the dedication and the ambition, and the desire to win. Of course that also had its negative side.

I had the privilege to watch him play for Forest at the start of his career. He would run, tackle, get up, tackle again and then play a good ball to a teammate or go surging up the pitch with lesser mortals backpedalling towards their own goal in various states of panic. Whatever you might think about Keane you have to admit he was a great player.
