Schlauchboot: Herewith are some facts regarding the industrial and construction side of the 2006 World Cup’s home base, Allianz Arena.
To build a 70,000 seat stadium that's that distinctive looking, for that kind of budget (don't tell me things are cheaper in Munich than in New York or Montreal or Chicago or LA, because they're not), is a phenomenal achievement. That was actually a pretty interesting link. Thanks, Friz.

I'm curious as hell to see how the automated crowd flow control system operates. Sure the thing can change colours, which is super cool, but if it can divert fans to certain parts of the stadium and regulate the flow of pedestrian traffic ... that's even cooler (or scary)! qbert, the Big "Owe" was worth every penny, wasn't it? Drapeau sure convinced everyone it was going to be. Did that statue/bust of him ever get affixed to the top??? If not, I'm sure there are pharoahs rolling over in their tombs ;) I'm still "pissy" about the clown who designed the new bathrooms at Commonwealth Stadium ... one entrance/exit with urinals at the far end ... somebody please extend the invitation to this clown from me ... we'll see how he likes it after a few glasses of draft!

Blimey, it changes colour. I wonder if it could display one colour at one end and another at the other to indicate to the opposing fans which end they should head to.

From the article:
The orb-like structure consists of 2,874 ethylene tetrafloroethylene (ETFE) foil panels, which are self cleaning and can be separately illuminated to different colors — red, white or blue light — depending on the teams in action.Looks like your wish is granted, squealy.

Meh, we had a billion-dollar stadium thirty years ago. We're just finishing to pay for it, and it's been useless for a couple of years already. I like the fact that the Allianz Arena can change colour. Very fashionable.
