U.S. winger DaMarcus Beasley sits down for a chat.: A drunk driving charge, people smoking weed in the streets and his own teammates telling him they hate Americans, "Gumby" talks about life in the Netherlands.

All that free legal marijuana and he goes and drives drunk. C'mon, man. Think! In more relevant news, Damarcus plays for Eindhoven? Maybe Donovan should think of returning to Germany or, better still, the EPL, and get some toughening up and intensity. I think this quote is quite telling of the gulf between MLS and top-level soccer:
"In MLS, yeah, you lose a game, you go to the next week and try to win. You lose that one, yeah, OK, you try the next one. People think you have a good season just if you make the playoffs. ... That would not be considered a good season at PSV or any top club in Europe."

DMB has been one of my favorite players since his great showing in 2002 and toughening up in European play will make him a key factor in our success this summer. Too bad Landon couldn't manage it--I was very excited when he went to Germany in the winter break before last but then he ran home and it seemed like the move was just an excuse to get him to the Galaxy, and I don't think he'll do nearly as well for the US as he did in 2002. Which isn't good for our prospects at all.

Good interview. Beasley stuck it out and is a much better player for it. Donovan was way too soft to make it in Germany and his play suffers for it. He is not even a dominant MLS player. Donovan is "Beckham Lite"...our American version of a much over rated but very marketable player. Beasley will have a much better tournament than Donovan, who will struggle and get frustrated easily against Italy and Czech Republic.

Maybe Donovan should think of returning to Germany... Too bad Landon couldn't manage it... Donovan was way too soft to make it in Germany... Landon has disappointed. The good news is he's still young and if he can change his know-it-all, condescending attitude, he could still become a star on the world stage. Another strike against him is his personality seems more comfortable with being a big fish in a small pond and it's holding him back. It was only 6 years ago when he was an 18 year old that he seemed to be the face and future of American soccer. It's not like he's completely fallen off the map and will still be a key player for us in Germany, but it would hard to argue that he's lived up to his potential. He has a chance to really make a go of it but he needs to do it soon...June 12th about noon eastern time would seem appropriate.

beasley needed a europe tour, his speed made him a star in 2002, but he needed some toughness, physical and mentally, and his europa experience will do that. i think he will do well in germany. I think our 4th ranking is a joke, we'll be lucky to get out of our group, if we do, i think we will have to face Brazil in the 2nd round, oh shit...but you never know.

Great interview... I like the guy... Minus points for saying he didn't understand why they didn't like Americans...
