Liverpool Football Club: have a long and glamorous history in the FA Cup. Last weekend, they beat Chelsea in this year's semi-final to set up a clash with West Ham in the final in Cardiff on May 13th. Twenty years ago, they beat Everton in the final at Wembley, an occasion that will be commemorated on Monday at Anfield when the two original sides play each other again to raise money for the Marina Dalglish Appeal.

It's a holiday in the UK. I'm tempted to drive up and watch.

Yeah, that should be one hell of a fun match.

When you say "long and glorious history": we never won it until '65, and uncle Bob never got one ... we've had six so far and four clubs have won more than us. Bit of a sore point with me as it's the only competition in which we're not the most successful English team. We're in for an FA Cup double this season, having recently won the Youth Cup. I was hoping for a unique triple, but our Ladies team isn't up to much. However the last time we won the Youth Cup in 96 we lost the FA Cup final and the last time we met Alan Pardew in the cup he knocked us out. West Ham are also worth a bet for the superstitious, as two of their club legends have died this year (Ron Greenwood and John Lyall) and they have a young, fearless team. Obviously I'm hoping the form team wins however, and we Liverpool fans think our name has been on it since the comeback against Luton from 3-1 down to 5-3 in the early rounds. Don't know if I'm going to the Legends match or not JJ. If I am I'll pop you an email and maybe we can meet up beforehand for a swift ale (or a coke if you're driving).

Classic Dalglish goal vs Everton in 1986 (in the 1st Division, not the FA Cup)

"Classic Dalglish goal vs Everton in 1986 (in the 1st Division, not the FA Cup)" That was an absolute classic, similar finish to Garcia's corker on Saturday actually. King Kenny still my favourite player ever, you can have your Cruyffs or your Maradonas or your Peles, but there was no-one to touch him or his big fat arse.

I prefer Dalglish's. Garcia had a headstart on the defenders (due to the goofy headers from Ferreira and Gallas, I think) and had a lob over the keeper. Nice job from distance, but maybe not as pretty or difficult as Dalglish's shot. Dalglish was working through traffic, and then slammed an absolutely unexpected rocket bender around the defence and the keeper. Now, anybody have a video of the 86 FA Cup final to jog this old man's memory? I know I watched it live, but I can't remember the lovely Rushie goals. And I thought I just watched a video online of the comeback goals this weekend ...

Garcia's stunner against Chelsea, for reference. It gives me joy to see that, but I still gotta go for King Kenny.

and btw, thanks for the post, JJ. I had no idea about the replay. Sorry for the going off-track. Now, to find that '86 FA Cup Final video ...

"I still gotta go for King Kenny" Oh, always. And his arse was an unrivalled football weapon. He could hold off two defenders at once with it ;-) Loving the commentary on that Luis Garcia clip. Don't understand the words, but the sentiment is clear. I might have that video somewhere. I'll let you know if I find it. Prefer the 5-0 game though for all time jubilation. "Rush scored one ... Rush scored two ... Rush scored three and Rush scored four ..."

The Dalgleish goal was awesome, I loved Luis Garcia's effort too but come on it was the first few seconds of the match and just amazing spin and power.

I just said it was a similar finish, I didn't say it was better as it clearly wasn't.
