Bidding Adieu to The Kid: It was a proud day in Boston and Fenway for the Red Sox and their fans as they honored Ted Williams in a ceremony and dedication. The park was open for free during the day so fans could pay homage. The ticketed event at night was remarkable. (More inside)

Most of the ceremony was set up like an interview with Peter Gammons and Sean McDonaugh taking turns speaking with the various guests. There were 9 sections, each discussing various aspects of Ted Williams' life - from his work with the Jimmy Fund to his military service as a Marine to his legendary baseball career. I was particularly moved by Dom DiMaggio's speech that urged the family of Ted Williams to settle their differences, honor his wishes and to finally let him rest in peace. Another distinct honor was changing the name of the park's 600 Club seating to the 406 Club. There were many old time fans in attendance and I saw a couple with tears in their eyes. It was just a special evening for everyone. My only lament is that my digital camera malfunctioned and didn't allow me to take all the pictures I could have. But the boston.com photo album is not to be missed.
