I'm jacked about the British Open. Are you jacked about the British Open?: Aha, my favorite of the tourneys begins July 18. In case you just crawled out from under a rock, Tiger will be going for his third slam event in a row. Personally, I want to see Tiger lap the field. I want him to lead by one stroke after the first round, five after the second, double digit lead going into the final, and win by twelve strokes. I want to see Garcia combust, Duval crumble, and Mickelson comment that "somebody needs to make a run at him". Is it because I love Tiger? Or just excellence in general? Yes, partly. But mostly I like to see guys who make 7 figures a year for golfing get a little taste of humble pie.

Oh, yeah, I'm definitely excited for it. I think Garcia could make a good run, because he won a British Amateur title there and he is such a good driver. Also, low and straight hitters like Bob Estes. From what I've heard so far, the spring and summer has been 4 times as wet as usual, so the rough will be thick, but conversely, the fairways won't run as much so they're effectively longer and wider. The long hitters, and those that are a little wild, may benefit from that. But wind dries things out quickly and wreaks havoc with ball flight, so still the premium will be on straight. I follow and know the PGA TOUR well, but my little bit of knowledge of the European tour says that Padraig Harrington, Michael Campbell and Justin Rose could fare very well also. Nick Faldo is a dark horse, maybe not for the victory, but if he can carry over his good performance in the US Open to a place he's won two of his three claret jugs, who knows? Anyway, since Tiger seems to be able to do whatever is called for to win, I'd pick him. My only departure from your comments, vito90, are that I'd like to see a close and dramatic finish with Tiger winning. By the way...it's interesting that you picked that sfgate story to link to about the British. (I used to work with the guy who wrote it, Steve Kroner, at a TV station. he's a good guy and doing a very good job in print.) vito90, do you live in the Bay Area? Like golf? Have you seen this?

I usually check out the SF Gate (I live in Seattle) for the Morning Fix, I just happened to randomly jump over to the sports column this one time. I thought the piece was pretty good so I went ahead and linked . I did see your locker room link and I would do it but (ugh) I don't have two nickels to rub together right now (just suffered a 10% across the board pay cut at work -shit at least I still have a job). With my income what it is now the only golf I have been able to play is the cheap-ass executive 9 hole course at Jackson Park. Are you in the Bay Area?

Well, at least watching it on TV is next to free. What site can I use to track it during the day?
