Another Tour de France article: from the Guardian. The article itself is pretty good, but the link to the interactive guide at the end is brilliant.

The prologue is over and it seems to be a case of as you were.. Nice to see Millar put up a good show, hopefully he can win a stage. I hope Jalabert challenges all the way, the race needs some excitement. I suspect I will be visiting the BBC photo galleries regularly. More from the BBC, it looks like it will be the place to follow the tour. Its web based coverage of the tour demonstrates its greatness, it doesn't even cover it on the telly, Eurosport and ITV does, yet it has a brilliant site. This speaks volumes for the merits of a public service organisation, with no shareholders to consider. I could go on linking to its various cycling bits all night, there is so much.

ITV2's live coverage was excellent today: essentially an expanded version of the stuff Liggett and Sherwen were doing for Channel 4 before they were dumped in favour of the cricket that C4 doesn't actually get to show these days. Anyway, it was less tortuous than Eurosport's wittering-about-the-village-we're-passing-through-at-cruising-speed full coverage, but with enough chance to go into detail on the issues. They'll be devoting about three hours a day to the sharp end of each stage. (I'm glad I got my discount ex-ITV-Digital box yesterday.) And Lance looked fucking astonishing. I'm guessing that he wore the US Postal blues yesterday because he's likely to be in yellow from now on, and he has to give the sponsors a bit of air-time. (Though Jalabert impressed, the old bugger.)

I agree ITV's coverage was superb, initially I had thought it was only on Eurosport and found myself watching Fulham v Haka, which I supposed was some sort of punishment for a misdemeanour in a previous life. Armstrong looked good, but despite his protestations that he cannot win, I am convinced Jalabert can give him a fight. Armstrong is due a bad day in this race and if Jalabert can maintain all round consistency he has a chance. I would not invest in the possibility though. The best news of the day for me, although I didn't realise it till a minute ago, was Santiago Botero. I still try to squeeze into a Cafe de Colombia cycling jersey which is about 3 sizes too small whenever I get on my bike; I have romantic notions about Columbian cyclists. There is a very good article on him in The Independent.
