Talladega track to be repaved for '06 Chase: Talladega Superspeedway officials announced Wednesday that the legendary Alabama racetrack is set to be repaved for the first time since 1979. In the quarter of a century of racing that has since passed, the track has firmly established itself as the most competitive track on the circuit, holding both the record for most lead changes in a race (75, May 6,1984) and the record for most leaders in a race (26, most recently April 22, 2001).

Mr Davis, it is obvious that you have never attended a "plate race". If you had you would understand and/or realize just how close together these cars are at speeds close to 195 mph. There is more bumping than at Bristol or Martinsville...... Richmond would be a close 2nd to the REAL racing that goes on in 'Daga.(Speaking of exciting and close racing). If I am mistaken and you have attended a plate race you must have been ill that day too not recognize the facts.

The restrictor plate tracks just aren't the same as they used to be say 20 years ago. Of course NASACR jst isn't the same as it once was. I just don't have the excitement I once did about NASCAR. I think "crash" is right in one sense in that both Talledega and Daytona have become more follow the leader than actual racing. Yeah, there might be bumping, grinding, & rubbin' (rubbin's racin' right?!), but there also seems to be too many freight trains. Go back about 30 or so years and you won't see those massive 20-25 car trains and you didn't need 4-5 cars behind you to pass. I say get rid of the restrictor plates and go to a stock V6 engine and no plate. Freight train racing might thrill those who don't know a lot about NASCAR, but for an older fan, it just ain't racin'.

Talladega is also the most boring track on the circuit. Restrictor-plate racing isn't racing, it's just a really fast parade punctuated by a few huge wrecks.
