MaxSight: - contact lens specifically designed to improve athletic performance. We've discussed the idea before. I can't remember which team, but a Major European football club is game-testing these doo-dads this season. The roll-over simulation reminds me of how my polarized fishing specs work and why I wear them even when I'm not fishing. More here. [via => via]
It's hard to get excited about this potential edge, simply because it's not much different than LASIK. Or Tommy John surgery.

But can LASIK make you look like you're possessed? BWAHAHAHAHA!

Think how intimidating Nomar Garciaparra would look with those. I have chills right now.

Pretty neat article I wonder if they will take off. They may even get pushed if not as effective because of the label. Baroid Bonds should get some to go with his substances and armor. His eyes will probably look better with these.

From a golf point of view: I'm a sucker for a novelty, so I like them and would like to try some, BUT, when I play, I wear normal lenses and polarising sunglases. The sunglasses are great when you're looking at something 300 yards away, but I can't read a putt properly when I'm wearing them, so I take them off to putt. I don't imagine that if I started removing and replacing contact lenses on the greens I'd be considered to be "playing without undue delay." Looking possessed has never been a problem. I find a bottle of Jamesons the night before does that trick.

One sports player commented that the lenses can intimidate opponents. “They make you look kind of evil,” he said. “Other players look at you like you’re possessed.”
