Santana is in a Rut: Johan Santana is in a rut right now. His last 5 starts have been a little shakey. However, are things really as bad as they seem? Some interesting stats to ponder.
The article answers this question by paragraph 7:
Is everything has bad as it seems? Here's something to consider: Through 18 starts this season, Santana is 7-5 with a 3.98 ERA, 26 walks and 143 strikeouts. Through 18 starts last season, Santana was 7-5 with a 3.89 ERA, 29 walks and 125 strikeouts. In other words, he's doing just fine and woe betide the hitter who strides confidently to the plate against him thinking it'll be an easy day at the park. :) In a related note, this season is shaping up to be a fine one- the league has a parity at the half way point that no team in contention can feel comfortable, can feel that they are beyond just one losing streak or winning streak dramatically changing their fortunes for the better or worse.

I am not saying that he will win 20 games again, but I really think that we will see another "streak" down the stretch.

Whoa. Let's not get carried away. Santana's second half streak last year was one for the ages - I doubt it will be repeated. History says so.

I know history says so. but he can easlily win 10 or so games in the second half. With the proper run support in his first 18 starts, his record would be better than it is right now. Last years streak was one for the ages, but it certainly was no Fluke--the kid can pitch...
