Chuck Thompson: long-time voice of the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Senators has left us. "Ain't the beer cold!" will never be heard again on a hot summer night.

It is sad when another of the old voices of baseball pass on. Every time it pushes us farther and farther away from the game of baseball and the way it used to be played, before all the ridiculous contracts, player movement, and other controversy. I thought I heard (and correct me if I'm wrong) that Thompson was actually the voice heard on the famous call of Bill Mazeroski's series winning homer against the Yankees? Even as a Yankee fan (though I wasn't born then), that's still one of the great moment and calls in the history of the game. When I go to Pittsburgh, I still try to walk down around the university campus to the site of the old portion of Forbes Field outfield wall and the plaque commemorating the spot where that home run cleared. Really awsome stuff.

That was his call dyams. I heard it just the other day in a tribute.
