Andy Van Hellemond Resigns in a Cloud:: "... Van Hellemond had borrowed cash from on-ice officials he supervised, raising a possible perception of conflict of interest in handing out plum playoff assignments."
If there's anything to this, both he and the league have some 'splaining to do. He's been one of the moral pillars of the league for decades.

Sure, go for it. This doesn't seem as bad as the sins of McNall or Eagleson, but -- I thought he'd be getting paid well enough to not have to bum the occasional few hundred off the people who report to him. I mean, hell, that's what I do, and I don't have one hundredth of his legacy.

I'd like to see the details (who was offered the plum jobs, and the box scores of said games) It could be he has a gambling problem, or some such, but it also could be much more sinister. 'Way to go NHL! Nice caretaking of your product! League credibility is at an all-time low. So don't expect me to side with you in the CBA thing. Not that I ever did.'

Interestingly this Globe article says '...Colin Campbell selected the officials for the final and [vice-president of hockey operations] Mike Murphy was installed as the supervisor for the final.'. Why wasn't the press all over this during the final? I certainly never heard anything about it. Of course this throws a wrench into the whole Sutter theory where $LOCAL_TEAM_NAME = "Calgary Flames". It will be very interesting to see if Marc Faucette gets his job back in light of this. The Globe article also mentions he 'borrowed' up to $10,000!! First off why the hell does anyone need that much cash? Like Garfield said it could be a gambling problem (hopefully not on NHL games). Secondly who actually has that much cash to loan out? What are they paying refs these days? It's not like you could just run to a bank machine to get that kind of cash.

WHAT THE FUCK ANDY VAN? Why would he borrow $100? Do they not pay him or something? Did he need to make rent? Jeez.

I would think gambling, especially on hockey, is the worst thing it could be. If it's "merely" a drug problem, I'll feel a lot better, because it's just Andy in trouble, and now that new shit has come to light, we can get Andy out of trouble. But gambling and affecting outcomes of games could get real ugly, real quick. Let's hope it's something else.

AVH was the best the NHL had since Bill Friday and he was probably the best ever! Some RAT must of caused this mess. If it was Mark, it is so sad because he had so many people pushing him and carrying his water for so many years. I would not think he was a Rat - but you never know with a lot of the "new breed". AVH has donated more time to all levels of hockey than 500 other officials. If he did anything wrong, it was forgetting that we live in a very stupid time where being a Rat is considered "rational" and being open or honest is considered a "loose cannon" or "possibly liable". I wonder what John D'AMico or Ray would do if they knew who the Rat or the rats were who would throw out such utter garbage. I can see Scampy now, grinding some scum into the ice or out on the track. Both he and John knew how to take care of such rodents. Slap em, sting em, cut em and them hold their still beating heart in front of their cowardly eyes. This makes me sick!

Can this be used to bolster the conspiracy theory in which all the league's officials are against
$LOCAL_TEAM_NAME
