Sharapova dominates Serena in final: Teenager Maria Sharapova stunned defending champion Serena Williams 6-1, 6-4 in the final Saturday to become the first Russian to win a Wimbledon singles title.
You and everyone else gary. I think the score was expected, just the other way around. Wow!

Count me among those who actually expected Sharapova to win this one (though I didn't predict her into the final). Serena was all over the place in the semi-final, and basically muscled and willed her way through. Sharapova, though, had a head of steam that carried her right through the final. She's the Anna Kournikova who can actually play tennis.

Can we never use the name Kournikova in a serious tennis thread again, now? Please?

Can we never use the name Kournikova in a serious tennis thread again, now? Please? What chicobangs said. ("but is she a babe?" sheesh.) I still haven't had time to watch all, or even much, of the final, but I really, really like what I saw. Looking ahead to the fall: what's the situation with the Belgians? Are they going to make the US Open, and if so, are they going to be healthy enough to be a factor? It could be a truly epic tournament: Capriati, Davenport, da Belgians, da Williamses, Sharpova, the real Russians, Mauresmo...whadja think?

Just when you think that the Williams gals can't get beat - bang, women's tennis is competitive again. Lots of great players for sure, browny.
