Serving up Fat Pitches?: "You've got to be a professional. Everybody knows he's my friend, but I want to do business," Freddy Garcia is the newest member of your Chicago White Sox. Ozzie Guillen is happy, are you? Does anyone in the SpoFi Mariner contingent have a story, a fond farewell?
I was wondering when a thread about this would show up. I as a Yankee fan am glad he got dealt. The Yankees would have overpaid and to be quite honest, he's only slightly above average as a pitcher. No one else in Yankeeland agrees with me, but I'm quite content with the current rotation. Contreras will be fine, and Lieber is just in a rough patch, and even so, a 5 ERA is fine for the 5 guy when you score like the Yankees do...

Rumor round the campfire here is that the Braves are going to ship out Russ Ortiz, and the Yankees are often mentioned as suitors.

Bernreuther... "Phew, thank god we didn't get one of the better pitchers in the league over the last few years in his prime on a club that can afford to pay anyone. That was close".

The only story I have about the Chief is that last year, when he was struggling mightily, it was stated so often that it became fact that Garcia is one of those sensitive ballplayers for whom hometown boos really got to him. He turned his season around once he started wearing earplugs when pitching at Safeco. I'll miss him. He has great stuff, but will never be a serious superstar because his ball is too easy to pick up coming to the plate. No subterfuge in his delivery. Guys will always get hits off him. Lacks a killer instinct.
