Gonchar: Gonchar Gonchar Gonchar Gonchar -- Kovalev goes to the Canadiens?? -- Gonchar Gonchar Gonchar Gonchar. Kovalev to the Canadiens? Where'd that come from? Gonchar Gonchar! Ooops, no Gonchar yet.

I'm somewhat surprised the Habs traded for Kovalev. Aren't they short on grit as it is? Though, admittedly Kovalev fought through alot on a game to game basis, and made a believer out of me that he gets hauled down all the time and no call is made, and that he does have a gripe with the refs.

small side story: apparently the WHOLE story has yet to come out in the Comrie vs. Oilers melodrama: the tale of malice from fans and mishandling by management remains untold.

Well you can colour me surprised as well. I think hat Kovalev may help the Canadians make it to the playoffs, but I think he won't be much help once they get there. Just my $0.02 CDN. I don't know what to make about that whole Comrie issue in Edmonton. It will be interesting when the whole story comes out. On the surface it still looks like a selfish player wanted more attention. Kevin Lowe seems like a pretty stand up kind of guy so I have a hard time believing that things were that bad up there in Edmonton.

On a related note... does anyone else think the whole trade deadline thing is overblown every year. I just don't think it has ever panned out to be such a huge league changing day. However every year the sports networks in Canada somehow manage to fill a whole days worth of air-time on the subject. No event if you ask me.

agreed camcanuck - i dont think in general much really happens. nhl.com has a story on five deals that 'sizzled' and five that 'fizzled'. the most interesting one to me was the fizzle that sent Stojanov to Pittsburgh for Naslund....heh.

here's a former Edmontonian's opinion on the Comrie affair.
