Going bankrupt? Deduct nine points! Do not pass GO!: Premiership chairmen have decided any club who go into administration after 3 June will be deducted points. The new rule is unlikely to affect debt-ridden Leeds United. (Ha! That's 'coz Leeds will be relegated whether they go bankrupt or not.)

All or nothing for most of these guys--what good is sitting in 12th place season after season?

And not a moment too soon. No club should be allowed to spend money as recklessly as Leeds did and get away with it, scot-free. I wonder if Manchester City fans are worried?

The intent is to discourage overspending and avoid the situations like the one with Leicester (newly promoted but looking like their on their way back down) where they went into administration last season, but continued to play, enjoying relief from the financial obligations other clubs were subject to while working they're way out of debt, and continuing their promotion campaign. I'm not sure how much nine points will really affect ownership decisions to gamble big dollars on promotion or Euro qualification. If the perceived benefits are large enough, the pounds, administration, and nine points be damned!
