A Capitol offense: Washington Caps owner Ted Leonsis and a fan had a wee altercation on Sunday following the game with Philly. Accounts differ as to what exactly happened, but what caught my eye is that the fan won't press charges, and gets to see this Saturday's game from the owner's box. Finally, a stupid fight without an even more stupid ending: a lawsuit. I am impressed with this fan, and Leonsis for the way it was resolved.

Hammer sits across the ice from Leonsis's box at MCI Center and Sunday night carried a sign to the arena saying, "Caps Hockey; AOL Stock -- See a Pattern?" to the game. Leonsis is vice chairman of America Online, whose stock value has dropped precipitously since Leonsis bought the Capitals in 1999. Hilarious, and quite a brilliant observation from Mr. Hammer. I find it interesting how wildly the two stories vary. Hammer says he was just walking by with the sign and Leonsis tried to strangle him, while the Caps say Hammer shoved the sign in his face and Leonsis simply tried to shove Hammer away. Either way, it is nice our fistic duo will kiss and make up over beers in the owner's box. Perhaps I should try socking the Blues' owner in the nose for good seats, eh?

Worth a shot ;)

To me, however, the sad thing was is that Leonsis is now expected to have a ton more security around him, and no longer do the walk amongst the fans stuff. Whether he is a smart owner or not is a moot point; the fact that he cared doesn't seem to be.
