Golf: Tears tantrums and tigers tamed: Unlikely winners, feminist protests, great comebacks and disqualifications. Alasdair Reid and Derek Clements (of The Times) review the golf season that had everything...

They somehow make a golf season that was extremely dull experienced over a whole year seem quite interesting when wrapped up in a few paragraphs. "No problem, said Curtis, I’ll play golf in the morning and get married in the afternoon. And he did. The views of Mrs Curtis, possibly the first woman in history to become a bride and a golf widow on the same day, are not known." I played golf the day I got married - as did several of my friends - I'd always assumed it was the done thing - no?

I played golf the day I got married - as did several of my friends - I'd always assumed it was the done thing - no? I suppose it's the order in which you do it, JJ. Golf before could be cool. Golf after, only if you enjoy spending your honeymoon with a Tight Lies jammed up your ass, so, not so much.

I played golf the day before my wedding and shot the best round of my life. You see what marriage does to a golf game? Maybe Ben Curtis should have heeded my cautionary tale.

I once accused my dad of ruining his very promising golfing career by getting married to my mum. He swiftly pointed out that actually his golf hadn't take a real nosedive until I was born.
