Take Over Derby?: Is it a race between Tampa Bay Bucs owner Malcom Glazer (who seems to have gotten past a desire to acquire the LA Dodgers) and Irish racing duo JP McManus and John Magnier to see who can take the EPL's biggest club private? Whatever the plans, action heats up as both sides increase their stakes.

Why doesn't Glazer invest money in the MLS?!?! What a dick.

Why should he invest in MLS? Manchester United is a global brand, making $50 million profit a year. DC United, on the other hand...

I hope Magnier buys the club and stitches Ferguson, due to their barney over the Rock of Gibralter. Apart from that I don't care who owns them.

Is "barney" a word meaning "fracas" or "tussle?" I've never heard it used that way, but by God, if it is, I'm using it next week in a column!

Yes it is, although it can also indicate a singular event of one person having a good shout about something. I believe the origin of the word is from Yorkshire, or at least up north somewhere, although it doesn't appear in the online dictionaries (which are mostly American), and I can't access the OED online anymore because they appear to have finally guessed that lots of people knew a password that they shouldn't really have known.

Actually I have no clue where it comes from. I just think that all unknown words come from Yorkshire in the same way that all unknown foods taste like chicken.

Does walrus taste like chicken? Seriously, I'm with SF--if Glazer thinks soccer is a good sport with which to be involved, investing in MLS would hardly be a drain on his resources. There are no teams left in Florida, or even the whole southeast US.

We may never know. I've certainly never met a walrus I would want to eat, if that's any help.
