"The Big Three And a Half.": If you ask most basketball fans about the Championship Celtic teams of the 80's they will identify the Big 3: Bird, McHale, and Parish. Some true Celtic fans (somewhere along the line) will also remind you of Cedric Maxwell who's number will be retired Dec. 15 against McHale's T'Wolves. How big was Cornbread's contribution to the Celtics' success?
Retell, reminisce, rejoice...

Sichting. Jerry Sichting was acquired the year after Cornbread was traded for Walton. From what I remember of the early Lakers-Celts battles he could be a handful with Larry on that frontline, of course that all stopped once "Two Dames" James (as my Dad still calls him) Worthy came on the scene.

It will be a little weird seeing Maxwell's jersey hanging next to those hall of fame greats, but it a nice way to recognize those teams - and a player who could have been more elsewhere, but gave up a few shots and played an important role on great championship teams. This is why I can't stand Red Sox fans crying over their team not winning any world series titles. The Celtics kicked so much ass! I would kill for some of those titles.

Maxwell deserves it, definitely. You have to give credit to Maxwell and DJ right along with the Big Three. I continue to feel that DJ should be in the Hall of Fame, even.

That's really great, what an honor. I have only vague memories of Cornbread. Was he prominent in the series with the Rockets with Olajuwan and Sampson? I remember that series well, but for some reason role players like Walton and Ainge and Siesting (sp?) always spring to mind first when I think about the Celtics.
