De La Hoya vs. Mosley II.: This is a nice summary of a wide-open bout. I've heard the local prognosticators here in L.A. lining up behind Oscar (surprise, surprise). Though the fight itself may be more competitive than most, what does that say for the sport? Is Boxing in a down-cycle? Who do you want to win? Who do you think will win?

I want De La Hoya to win.
I think De La Hoya will win.
But I'm not putting any money on it. It's too hard to determine whether or not Oscar is prepared for Mosley's speed, or if Mosley will be able to "box" with De La Hoya on the technical level.

Damn lilnemo...we should have started talking about this earlier in the week. The fight is starting any minute now. I think De La Hoya will win, but it expect it to be a good fight. Wish I was watching it... Boxing IS in a down cycle...but usually cycles come to an end at some point. There's nothing going on in boxing with the possible exception of Roy Jones Jr. that gives me any hope.

I watched this fight at home. Oscar was robbed. How is it that judges score blood drawn from accidental head butts? I don't want to take away from Mosley, he fought a good fight. But he was clearly frustrated by Oscar's left jab and hook. Most of the time between rounds consisted of the Mosley camp arguing over strategy. Even Shane protested, saying he couldn't just step into Oscar with that left hook waiting. Sad for Oscar, and boxing. There was some talk before the fight that Arum had this one tied up. That Bob had one of the judges over for dinner. Conflict of interest much? George Foreman went as far as to say that the decision itself was an indictment of Arum, not a judgement of De La Hoya's performance in the ring. Larry Merchant didn't agree, but George told him he didn't understand 'cause he's never been in the ring. And Lampley being the mediator, " Now, now boys." Good stuff.

Oscar was robbed the first time around as well. A couple lucky punches won it for Mosely last time, and it sounds like the same thing in round 2. Anyway, can't wait to see the outcome of Oscar's formal inquiry.
