Test positive for a banned substance: and it takes an international delegation lobbying arbitrators years after the fact to maybe strip you of your medal. This is the current plight of Russia's Olga Danilova, who is the current Salt Lake gold medalist of the 5km free pursuit (cross country skiing). If this needs the arbitration process to decide, what does testing positive entail? Single event elimination. That makes sense.

It sounds like the arbitration process has been resulting in appropriate punishments. There has to be some sort of due process before medals are stripped...at least to determine there was not a problem with the chain of evidence or something. Seeing how Danilova has already had one medal stripped from the same games this will likely be a rubber stamp process, methinks.

true. yet its incredible that events, rather than infringing individuals, are the subject of the arbitration. or atleast thats what i got from the story. btw, thanks for posting. this morning was rough and my thoughts incomplete.
