Another roll of the Dice.: Antonio McDyess may be ready for training camp. The Knicks are keeping mum so far. They say they'll have more info in late September. At least all parties agree that McDyess is to stay out of preseason games (Hopefully no one raises a fuss over that issue). So here's a piece by the NY Daily News to torture all the Knick fans. Again.

Antonio is one of those players that you hope things work out for, like Grant Hill. I really wish all major sports would just do away with preseason games. I don't want to hear about some promoter in some city complaining that because McDyess won't play in an exhibition he can't sell out his venue. In the NBA, some make the excuse that preseason is the only way to evaluate how rookies, and FAs work in their system. Then why do they have all those damn summer leagues!? If you need a way to make cash in the off-season either charge more for the summer leagues or let the public in for practices during the year, or something. Don't place any unnecessary risk on your atheletes.

I don't think playing games in the preseason is "placing unnecessary risk on your athletes' - these guys have shown an alarming tendency to get hurt by luggage, pets and washing their cars. You shouldn't play them if there are legitimate reasons - like they're tired or hungover, or they're not ready - but the preseason is a chance for some guys to show their stuff and other guys to fine tune their game. Also coaches need to know what their looking at and scrimmages and grab-ass don't tell them that. I think you should just fine the shit outta guys who seem to think that the $72 million contracts they sign are entitled to them and they don't have to work hard in the off-season to get into the kind of shape where you don't get hurt. But injuries happen and some guys, like McDyess just get injured all the time. People are people. Incidently, my brother is one of those guys. Yesterday, he was rollerblading and through an eloborate series of motions and other factors too numerous to mention, managed to face-plant on the road outside our apartment. Just in time for my sister's wedding tomorrow. What's up with these guys?

Weedy, were you helping your brother out with some of your namesake before the rollerblading? Anyway, hope your sister has a great wedding and is marrying a sportsfan.

It's too bad the Knicks didn't hang on to Marcus Camby. He and Antonio could have played one-on-one. First one to blow out both knees wins.

Billy - my brother puts my namesake to shame. My sister's marrying a race car driver - used to run CASCAR up here but couldn't find another sponsor after he put his car into the wall two years ago - I have the video, hello Real TV- 7 flips and it was on fire. Thanks for the good wishes.
