GS Warriors meet your new GM: Chris Mullin. ...or is he?: I like his moves so far (if they are his). I don't know how the current pieces will fit, but the cap potential is tremendous! Maybe he'll hire on Mitch Richmond, and Tim Hardaway as consultants. Run TMC! The Executive Edition! Imagine it: Timmy Two-Step at the PIT or Moody Bible Institute watching draft prospects, telling Chris, "That boyz got skeeelz!" Maybe there is hope for the Warriors fans. or not....

New ad slogan: Warriors: We make you feel good with only 20 wins a year. And no playoffs ever again! That ought to sell a few tickets because the quality of play sure won't make that dog bark.

P.S. Nick seems to be more level-headed now. I wouldn't rule out an outrageous fantasy season. When does SpoFi's NBA Fantasy League start? I'm getting creamed in the Premiership!
Shhhh. Don't say anything, but notice that no one is reporting Nick griping about this move... interesting.

I like that in the article Mullin recognized that St. Jean and Cohan screwed up by letting Arenas run (not walk) away. And yet somehow re-organized the team around what remained of it's young core:Dunleavy, Murphy, Richardson.

The Plot Thickens. Sura for Cliffy is a wash stats wise, I think.Bobby gets rewarded for 3 years in the cellar by being sent to a playoff-team that could seriously contend for a finals berth. He also becomes Detroit's third guard (assuming Curry stays at SF), unless Delfino's buyout goes through. This could signal the end for Chucky. We won't know until Ernest Larry comes to camp.
Uncle Cliffy has enough in the tank to average 10ppg, and a handful of boards. I like the acquisition of Sanchez. He appears to be a throw-in but his defense and playmaking ability make him a nice change of pace backup for Van Exel, should Speedy get injured (not unheard of) or not work out.

Sorry, but this is crap. Yes, Van Exel is a shoot-first PG, which makes the fact that he's been top 20 in assists his entire career pretty astounding. I may be giving Nick the benefit of the doubt but his stats back it up. He's averaging 7.6 apg for his career, #41 all-time assists just below Kenny Anderson (in 3 fewer years). Should a starting PG be able to average more than 5 or 6 assists? Yeah, but not many do.

This is interesting. The longer I let this trade simmer on the backburner of my brain, the better it tastes!< /mixed metaphor>>
Seriously, Mullin's explanation makes sense!
I've got a good feeling about this team, not a tingly playoff feeling mind you, but a subtle Clipperesque- Hey, here's a shiny bright spot for my team before its inevitably sent back to the basement- type feeling.posted by lilnemo at 02:03 PM on August 20, 2003
