American recruit scores first goal for the Swans: Patrick Mitchell, a college basketball player from Iowa, signed for AFL's Sydney Swans last year.

Definitely the opposite direction than the normal. Not sure how basketball prepares one for footy, except for the jump balls and of course being taller than average will help with balls up in the air.
