Football as Religion?: Dennis Bergkamp on motivation, Arsene Wenger and the love of the game.
Good read, Owly. Thanks for the link. I think in a broader sense most sports are the same. I certainly get from golf what other people seem to get from religion - peace, time to think, inspiration, hope, morality, universality. I imagine that if you're into anything enough it fills that curious vacuum in a human mind.

Even when I was getting paid to play, I remember thinking that I'd keep doing this for free. It never felt like work, and sometimes, and just enough times to keep me searching, it felt transcendent. I figure musicians and artists must feel the same way. Universal, yeah.

Still my favorite player. Great read.

I enjoyed this interview. The bit about the two types of players - those who seve football and those who serve their own egos - is pretty revealing, and explains a lot. :-)
