Measuring the NHL-NHLPA divide: Oh, about $1-billion

I think the NHLPA would be crazy to take a deal that involves a significant cut in current revenue AND decreasing shares going forward. In the event even one team folds (which is not out of the realm of possibility...does Phoenix survive another work stoppage?) the existing owners either see their revenues increase or stay the same, while the players will lose out (assuming of course that a team that folds is low revenue and the new cap is now split 29 ways.)
They took a rollback of 24% and a hard cap last time. Can they afford, for the long-term stability of the league, to essentially accept that less than half of the reasons the fans support the league is the actual play?

Jose Iglesias has some range. You know you're a decent fielder when the announcer has to pause to process who is making the play.
