The History of WFAN: (and, technically, WHN)
Oh, that Simmons diary led me to such an Internet find: the Mike and the Mad Dog from the day after the 2004 Sox eliminated the Yankees. Not because of schadenfreude, but because there is a single user there responding to every gloating Boston sports fan in the comments on Youtube. It's like some sad, fourth-tier knight of the Round Table with a useless quest.

I was listening when the exchange was made ... so seamless yet so odd. One of the toughest parts, which wasn't mentioned, was when WABC went to a sports/talk format, first during the evening, then all day. That could have put them under but having Imus, and Mike and Chris saved them.
"Peter J. Franklin," indeed, was crazy on the air; I remember from a book he wrote he referred to the military uniforms at Texas A&M made the students "look like they're in the Wehrmacht."
And Doris from Rego Park, God rest her soul, seemed to be a lonely person who wanted to talk to someone yet was so knowledgeable. It was a great loss when she died ... she was that loved.
