On this day in SpoFi history . . . 10 years ago, slow news day (it was a Saturday afterall), as the only discussion was around rcade's long-standing and well-known irrational hate of, and ongoing attempts to disparage, pole vaulting and folks mulled an opportunity to try to buy the Expos (which seems cute and quaint now, although the model has worked elsewhere).

Todd Bertuzzi signs 2 year extension with Red Wings, meanwhile Steve Moore wins court ruling in civil case against Bertuzzi, Marc Crawford, and Orca Bay Hockey. After more than 8 years of legal wrangling, Moore's $38 million lawsuit is scheduled to begin on Sept. 22.

Two guarantees about Leafs - they fall from the trees each autumn and from the playoff race each spring.

Apparently Brian Burke figures another goaltender is the answer. I watch as few Leafs games as possible, but from those it appears obvious they'd be much better off investing in a steady defenseman and a forward or 2 who has some focus on the defensive end of the ice.
