The Forgotten Story of 17 November 1993: Rob Smyth at The Guardian gives a rundown of an incredible night of football in the final matches of European qualifying for the 1994 World Cup.
I love the how the Graun is giving Smyth free rein on these pieces -- his one on the Danish team of the 1980s is also fantastic -- and I love how YouTube supplies the goods, in a way that amplifies the memories of those who watched the matches (I remember the San Marino debacle most of all) and illustrates them for a new audience.
It's a completely different approach to the classic American long-form sports article, but no less satisfying.

I've never forgotten, that Wales match. It is burned into my memory nearly as much as 29 November 1997 on the other side of the world.
/And yes, I have both Wales and Australian football shirts in my cupboard, and they come out when it's important.
