A Women's Grand Slam Final without one of the William's sisters is like fishing without drinking. But Justine Henin will face her Belgian countrywoman Kim Clijsters for the French Open title.
yay! not that I have any rooting interest in Henin-Clijsters, but still, yay.

The women's tournament is still happening? I only watch the men's bracket..

I wish I had something snarky to say about the French here, but I don't. Well, they smell bad. As for the tourney, I'm glad to see Henin make it also. It just means a little more parity, and I like that. Dynasties are boring.

Henin proves that tennis not all about strength. She seems frail compared to Serena, but her fluid strokes pack the same kind of heat. I would have liked to have seen Serena win nonetheless. I'm always intrigued by absolute dominance.

Henin-Hardenne's performance today was wonderful for those who like a bit of grace and guile in women's tennis. (And, y'know, I have no sympathy for Serena, who should have engaged brain before putting her mouth into gear about the French some time back.) I'm sure that it'll trigger the Belgian Civil War, as distressed Flemish types demand revenge on their Walloon compatriots. The French women's title is far more satisfying to watch than the men's, anyway, simply because it's not a complete aberration compared to the other Grand Slam tournaments. I'm bemused by the way in which the French Open produces commanding, triumphant performances by Spanish/Argentinian/Brazilian men who then go on to be knocked out in straight sets in the first round of Wimbledon. But that's just me.

Walloon. Now that's comedy.

Great gobbeldy goo, I feel like I just woke up from a nap and missed the whole damn tournament. Obviously it's nice to see somebody give the Williams sisters a run for their money. Competition is a good thing, you know, and the Venus v. Serena thing got to be a bit tired what with Serena consistently whomping up on her (althought I'm glad it was that way and not vice versa). Thanks for the update, vito.
