Spanish players ready to strike: and their Italian colleagues are ready to join them in a work stoppage. Spanish players just want the money owed from clubs in administration while the issue in Italy is, wait for it, who pays the extra austerity tax.

Well it depends- Italian players may well be paid a salary *after* tax. So contractually, if the Government imposes tax rises, it may well be up to the clubs to pay. Unfair, maybe, but it's the clubs' fault for offering such contracts in the firtst place. Italian footballers wouldn't be the first employees to resist a pay cut.

News just in - French Championnat players have blockaded all roads leading into Paris. Police have advised motorists to be on the lookout for barricades made up of Porsches, Merecedes-Benzes, Lamborghinis and Aston Martins.
