CJ Nitkowski and his stem cells: Bartolo Colon's comeback after a stem-cell treatment spurred 38-year-old CJ Nitkowski to seek the same treatment. Read his thoughts on the process and his future on his blog.
When Colon was more in the news for this a couple of months ago, the MeFi discussion (always treacherous, when it comes to sports) covered this ground fairly well- there were the usual "Anything even hinting at PED is the greatest sin in the world" and "Well hey, what's wrong with medicine to treat injuries- and in the life of a pro athlete, injuries are exacerbated by the high levels of performance and strain, and can be career-threatening". In this regard, the stem-cell treatment seems beautifully elegant and helpful.
The blog is well written, and I like that he doesn't mince around about this treatment, coming right out and saying that he's happy to do it, that it's his body, and he hopes it'll rejuvenate his career for another season or two in the majors.
