"The most dramatic turnaround in NCAA history": culminated in a national championship yesterday as Craig Tiley coached the University of Illinois men's tennis team to the NCAA Championship over Vanderbilt. Even more amazing is the fact that they won it without a single foreign player on the roster,
To win a tennis title in the Midwest is amazing enough. But the amazing part is doing that without a bevy of foreign-bred talent. You'll find enough highly-ranked teams outside that California-Texas-Florida axis. They just look like the UN.

I don't know if it's the most dramatic turnaround in NCAA history, but to win a tennis title in the Midwest is pretty amazing. It also tells me that as much as I have said the U of I can't expect Chicago basketball recruits to play in a cow town, maybe the hoops program just ain't workin' hard enough.
