Triple-overtime game finishes with bizarre 38-31 score: A nationally ranked team and three overtimes usually produce a score well into the 100s. That wasn't the case Tuesday near Dallas, where RivalsHigh 100 No. 12 Flower Mound (Texas) Marcus High eked out a 38-31, triple-overtime district win against Plano (Texas) West High, which resorted to outright stalling as a way to remain competitive with a team that had already blown it out once this year.

It may have been boring as hell to watch, but it was legal, and I'll never fault a coach or player for coming up with a good legal strategy to try to win a contest. I would simply hope it doesn't become routine.

And that's why they invented the shot clock

They only invented the shot clock when teams full of All-Americans were being coached to play this way.

I once called a sectional high school game where Edwardsville HS (a pretty good team and my alma mater) was facing East St. Louis Senior High, which at the time featured Darius Miles. At the half, I believe the score was 4-0.

EHS's coach played the four corners for damned near the entire game, but they had no shot otherwise. Man, we talked about everything BUT basketball that night.

It's hard to criticize Plano West when it almost worked. It was in their opinion the best chance to win.

I thought this would be a football story until I got to the comments.
