Rafer Johnson and the Power of 10: These are some stories of an extraordinary life. No. Wait. They teach you early on in the storytelling business to never set expectations too high. For instance, you don’t want to say, “Oh, I’ve got this hilarious joke I have to tell you.” Let the joke breathe. You don’t want to say, “Here is a story you will not believe.” Let the story speak.

Read this yesterday and was going to post it, but I thought, if you're not reading Joe, you're not getting the big picture.

It amazes me how often these exceptional people and athletes are sort of forgotten for no good reason. A decade of track stardom, a lifetime of interesting connections. The guy tackled Sirhan Sirhan for fuck's sake.

But he didn't make a big deal about retiring from the decathlon 12 times.
