Reach out and touch someone: Fan hits Everett with cellie:
Known for umpire-bumping, reporter-threatening and hysterical soundbites, Carl Everett is usually the one starting fracases. But Saturday, a fan in Oakland beaned him in the back of his head with his cell phone. Where is this fan violence coming from? When will it end? And what can MLB do about it?

"what a horrible thing to happen on Dozen Egg Night" well, I find it amusing that Everett is appalled by this violence... this coming from a man who headbutted an umpire (on Kids Day, no less) and generally crafted a fine reputation as a beligerant arrogant violent asshole during his tenure in Boston. Not that it makes what happened any less wrong, but I have a hard time mustering up any kind of sympathy or outrage on the behalf of Everett.

It was Oakland and even though Raiders fans are better known for such antics... it was still Oakland.

Carl should be fortunate that the phone hit him in an area of his body where it was sure to do no damage. Still, if there's a dumber man than Everett in the universe, he has been revealed. He threw his CELL PHONE. I'm trying to think of something that would have made it easier to identify the guy — like if he'd thrown a neon sign flashing his name and address.

They could stop having kids' opening day at Fenway. Weird crap happens to Everett every year on that day. Of course, when stuff happens to you over and over, it's usually 95% your fault.
