Part 2: Why not Winnipeg: When the Winnipeg Jets packed up and moved to Phoenix at the end of the 1996 NHL season, it felt like goodbye forever. The cost of doing business in the NHL was skyrocketing and poor little Winnipeg simply couldn’t keep up. Today the 6 year old MTS Centre sits downtown, a shining success both as a hockey and entertainment facility. It books the third-highest number of shows in Canada, behind only the Air Canada Centre in Toronto and the Bell Centre in Montreal.
