Do you live in a miserable sports city?: Our purpose is to identify those cities that have historically led the sports world in the close-but-no-cigar category – good enough to tease their fans with lots of playoff appearances, including Super Bowls, World Series’, NBA finals or NHL finals, only to let them down in the end. Seems to me that Phoenix was ranked too high, some of their teams haven't been around long enough. I would think that Cleveland should be higher than number 8. As to my Vikings...there's always next year.

San Diego may have never won "The Big One" in any sport but at least it's sunny and warm year round
BZZT - 1963 AFL championship.
With the length of the drought that SD's had since its last championship in a major sport, I was kind of surprised it didn't score higher. But, one thing the list seems to take heavily into account is the amount of times a team has reached the championship round only to lose. That's only happened to SD three times, as opposed to Buffalo and Atlanta, with many more losses.

Out of the cities with at least 3 major pro teams (MLB, NHL, NFL and NBA), Minneapolis-St. Paul has gone the longest without an appearance in the championship game/series in any of the four. Their last was the 1991 World Series, though the North Stars also reached the Stanley Cup Finals that year. On top of that, only one currently eligible city has gone longer than the Twin Cities without winning a title, and that is Cleveland, who could snap that streak next month if the Cavaliers win it all. (Seattle also qualified, but now they are down to two teams with the loss of the Supersonics.)
So yeah, we haven't had much to cheer about here in Minny. At least we have the 2002 and 2003 NCAA hockey championships.

Well it may not be the worst sports city but LA is a pretty bad pro-football city. We haven't won a superbowl in a long time. Wait we haven't had a team in a long time.
Flip side - we haven't had to pay for a stadium either.

San Diego may have never won "The Big One" in any sport but at least it's sunny and warm year round.... and losing the Clippers to LA should be considered a plus
