I don't think this is the first or the last time that anyone will say that Obama did the right thing. It's just the first of many.

For those who haven't been following Dan's interest in Obama... Dan Rooney is a life-long Republican who saw Obama on the the TV and called his son to say he was so moved that he wanted to get involved. The two are very close now.

It's a very good choice. Obama said that he didn't want to be limited to career nominees, and Dublin is one of the classic non-career postings. The relationship between Irish-Americans and the "old country" is sometimes muddied by misplaced sentiment, but Rooney and the AIF have been on the right side for a long, long time.

Odd. The last sentence was eaten during post...
"... Dan Rooney is an unwavering supporter of Irish peace, culture, and education, and I have every confidence that he and Secretary Clinton will ensure America's continued close and unique partnership with Ireland in the years ahead."
