Revenge of the Baseball Gods : "'Outside the Lines' revisits the battle between Danny Almonte and Matt Cerda in the 2001 Little League World Series.

Two airplanes destroyed the Twin Towers, and two boys went back to the rest of their lives.

Nineteen days before, these boys had played a crisp Little League World Series ballgame, a ballgame that would make one of them an icon and one of them weep."

I thought this was a very well written piece, and an excellent story. Imagine the possibility of Cerda actually catching Almonte- what a twist of fate that would be!

Like my mother used to tell me when I was a kid: "Cheaters never prosper". Even though Almonte himself didn't fake his birth certificate, he certainly knew he was too old to play in that age division.

Even if he knew, if your dad or coach is telling you "do this, it will be fine" that carries an enormous amount of weight with a young person. If he has the talent, I don't think this should keep him out of the game.

That all said, go Cerda! I hope that kid is able to live up to his potential. He sounds like he's the real deal.
