Note to self: What the hell where you thinking picking against the Pats all postseason. Response: Won't make that mistake again: Patriots!

I won't complain about my lost points due to unfamiliarity with the spread thingy - mostly because I have no chance of catching up with Billy or Jason. Note to bettors - Vegas will try to get you to put money on the Eagles for the nest two weeks. Unless the spread hits 10+ ignore them. I don't think they have a two Terrell chance of making this happen.

Agreed.

Chris2y, I hate the Smeagles so badly I now hate you (but only a little bit, and just for the next two weeks). Also, go me! You will have to pry the top spot out of my cold dead fingers!!!

No, go me!!! I got a legitimate chance of bringing the billsaysthis hegemony to an end!!! (it's unbloodylikely that I will, however, since billsaysthis didn't just fall off the turnip truck and is likely to make the same picks I would (or better) for the SB)

I've never even seen a turnip truck, have you?
posted by billsaysthis at 11:15 PM on January 25, 2005
Well, not a dedicated, specially-fitted turnip truck, no. I've seen potato carts, though -- they'd do the job.

When I worked in produce during my high school years, we never had a turnip truck deliver turnips. Rather, turnips would come in one or two turnip boxes on the miscellaneous-vegetables skid delivered by the regular truck. I'd like to see the produce operation in a more high-turnip-traffic area, though.

DrJohn, are you a sports fan or someone who likes to watch the grass grow?
posted by billsaysthis at 07:32 PM on January 26, 2005
I have no love for the grass, bill, but I am a fan of turnip games, especially of the frozen variety.

lbb, I think we have to wait until another thread is spawned by NoMich sometime this week, with the official rules/spread/picks, before the SB conversation picks back up. Hey, curious, though: am I the only one who thinks that the biggest value of the "T.O.: Will he play?" drama is in the impact to the Patriots coaching staff? Even though it's really just a tiny possibility Owens makes an improbable appearance despite such a recent, serious injury, the legendary Patriots coaching staff, will effectively have to draw up two different sets of defensive setups, and run their players through two different sets of practice routines. Granted, they'll probably set up their practices mostly around an Owens-less Philadelphia, with only a small portion of time on how to neutralize Owens, just based on the odds that he's healthy enough to play effectively. Still, it may be the one way of minimizing that brilliant staff: make the Eagles roster uncertain enough that the Patriots aren't truly sure even what "team" they'll be playing on the 6th!

lbb, I think we have to wait until another thread is spawned by NoMich sometime this week, with the official rules/spread/picks, before the SB conversation picks back up. I know. I just wanna get my bet in! Hey, curious, though: am I the only one who thinks that the biggest value of the "T.O.: Will he play?" drama is in the impact to the Patriots coaching staff? D'ya think it's having a big impact on them? If he's as hurt as bad as they say, I dunno that he'd be that much of a threat, no disrespect intended. It's a gamble, but I don't know that I'd change my plans regardless of his presence on the field. But then, I'm the idjit who always decides to try and take control of Asia when playing Risk.

I'm sorry I've been so slack about this. It's been rather busy at work. I'll get everything together later on today/tonight.

To heck with it, I'm going to keep it simple. I'm just too busy right now to do anything complicated. I'll be fine for time on Sunday, but that's not nearly enough time for y'all to make your predictions by kickoff. So here it is: Pick a winning team: 5 points Pick the Superbowl MVP: 4 points Pick the amount of points they'll win by: 3 points Pick the total amount of points scored by both teams: 2 points

NoMich, you wanna start a new predictions thread? It's your baby, baby.

Yeah, I suppose it would be a good idea to do that. New thread, coming up.

Hal and jason did a great job this week. Both only missed one O/U/E. Hal would probably be smoking everybody if he would've played weeks 1 and 2. However, as it is right now, billsaysthis, jasonspaceman and l_l_b are 1-2-3 in a very close race. Since the big game is two weeks away, I won't post that game's rules until next week. I want the spread and the over/under to settle a bit. Besides, I need some time to read Hal's post and to be able to understand it. I'm not much of a Vegas/gambling guy so bear with me. Thanks. I guess, in the meantime, think about who's going to win, think about the spread, think about the over/under and think of who you think the MVP will be. I might add another fun thing in there, but what that is eludes me right now.
