Champions League: Man Utd vs Basel -- LIVE ... text (1130am PST/730pm GMT).: In about one hour, you can experience the glory of live European soccer from the comfort of your workstation. OK, you'll have to read it, and hit Refresh once a minute. But believe me, it's fun. Let Barry Glendenning of the Guardian split your sides with soccer snark. Email shout-outs to your pals all over the globe. (I'm gonna do one to my SpoFi soccer buddies.) And oh yeah, watch Man U get beaten by the team that kicked Liverpool out off the Champs.

Will the Guardian be doing any live commentary for Milan/Madrid, which is shown live on ESPN2.

Nope, doesn't look like there's live text on Guardian or Soccernet. You might wanna try BBC coverage but it's not clear if they're actually going live. Even if they are, it'll be canned robot text. Boring. You'll be better off reading the Man U v Basel game.

Of course, those of us having the good fortune to live in England will be able to watch the game on terrestial tv. Man Utd must be all we want to watch, because that's all they ever bloody show. I'm hoping Basel pull off a shock victory myself. How unpatriotic. ;-)

Veron hasn't played a decent game since Man U signed him. Off with his head!

StarFucker: Check out the Guardian commentary! Now!

Oh man, that guy on Guardian is cracking me up! Scholes was never the smartest player was he? He's got as many scruples as Keane...

I'm with Squealy. Come On Basil! Are any of you lot the Pennsylvania dude?

I'm with Basel all the way, too. And, no, FB, I'm not the Penn guy. I'm still waiting for Glendenning to post my shout-out to you and Calmy and StarFucker. Or at least make fun of it. Maybe you guys should email him, too, and see if he notices a pattern. Let's see which one of us gets in first.

Damn, way to go Basel. I'm hoping this stands up for my beat report on Thursday (I imagine I will find lots of shocked recaps).

Well, a totally satisfactory first half. Except for Scholes not being sent off. Glendenning says he should've had four yellow cards by now.

I mailed him about a sportsfilter crowd very early on, he is cocking a deaf un!
posted by Fat Buddha at 02:49 PM on November 26, 2002
I've sent him three emails (I'm such a nerd) and still nothing.
posted by worldcup2002 at 02:53 PM on November 26, 2002
I sent him a lot of emails during the last group of games (and during the world cup) without any response either.

Well let's see what we can do in the second half. Burn out his mailbox. I mean that in a fun and good way, ok?

Damn, ManU scores an equalizer. C'mon Basel, strike back!

Uhm... that's not excatly what I meant. Basel 1-2 ManU.

I feel bad for my Sportsfilter brethren, but I relish the impending Man U victory all the same. Basel 1-3 Man U.

The only good thing about this score is that it marks the beginning of the demise of Starfucker!

I was just pulling for the upset, though the thought of a ManU loss did bring a bit of a smile to my face. I just hope I'm grinning tomorrow. We need to remind Mr. Glendenning that it should't be so incredibly surprising and that there are a good number of native-ish Americans (not expatriate Brits) who know a bit about football.

How does that mark the beginning of the demise of me!?!

I think Glendinning is a professional wind up merchant, I wouldn't take him too seriously. Starfucker mate, you are doomed.
posted by Fat Buddha at 03:26 PM on November 26, 2002
Why am i doomed?! What are you guys planning?!
posted by StarFucker at 03:31 PM on November 26, 2002
We are deciding which three weeks to deduct from your points, Starfucker.

Glendinning actually sent me an e mail asking what Sportsfilter is. Didn't make any difference though. I sense a mission.
posted by Fat Buddha at 04:08 PM on November 26, 2002
How you mean? You think he's got it out for us? I think he's realized a pattern in our emails, but doesn't know enough about the Net to just type in Sportsfilter.com. Hahahaha.
