Ask SpoFi: Do any of you use MLB's Gameday Audio? [more inside]

I'm considering purchasing it for the upcoming season, since it's priced reasonably ($15) and I'd be able to catch more A's games. All I get are Angels and Dodgers games, and I'm not a fan of either team. How is the sound quality? Anybody have a bad experience using the service? I'm on Mac OS X, using the free RealOne Player.

I'm on my second year. The sound quality's great on my DSL connection. I think it supports both Windows Media and Real players. It's cool to be able to hear announcers like Jon Miller in San Francisco and Vin Scully in Los Angeles, and since they archive games, you can catch big events.

No, it's a bad post because now I'm contemplating getting it even though I don't *need* it.

Wow, only one SpoFite using the service? Well, maybe I'll sign up and report back for the others considering it.

they archive? that's mad cool. NHL.com does a free hockey radio thing, but they don't have no stinkin archive.

I signed up last night, and I'm listening to the NY-Houston game right now. I'm not impressed. The sound quality is crap, worse than a cheap AM radio. The signal is only 8.6Kbps and I'm on a 1.5Mbps DSL connection. I think the sound quality would be much better if the signal scaled up to match the bandwidth of my line. There's no equalizer control (on the free Mac player anyway), and the sound has way too much bass. Not good. Also, the interface for listening to games sucks. You have to click on the link just as the game starts. You can't open the file ten or fifteen minutes before and catch the start of the game. I'll probably keep the service, but I'm really disappointed.

It is fun to hear the Astro's home announcers giggling over Jeter's error....
