EPL Fantasy League Week 10 (October final). It was looking ugly for our league average until Henry saved the day, but it was Steed Malbranque who came through for gameweek-winner mbd1. It's end-of-month, so get those multi-transfer deals in now! (more inside)

Okay, that worked, so now I can comment. You'll be glad to hear that our f'ed-off friend is still playing in our league, as he's got a transfer recorded for this week. So that's good (come back soon, wc!). Michael Owen's return can be good news, or not, depending on whether or not you've just sold him. Me, I'm happiest about my Toon's return to form. Biggest thumbs-down of the week goes to Sours, who have just gone to a subscription service for their live audio commentary (with @^&%#$&^%^@ Videolounge). The list of free broadcasters is apparently down to Everton, Charlton Athletic and Fulham. Suck.

Woo hoo! Huge thumbs down to Spurs, I had enjoyed hearing the commentary. They've been playing pretty well over the last few weeks, too. Thanks, taupe.

it seems like feast or famine for me. i was third, once. or twice. October was not very impressive. bring on november.

Theres always an alternative commentary. Last year wc2002 postsed a list, but I can't find it. Come back wc2002.

I think "Sours" is more accurate. Another bad day at the office for me. I think the chairman and the fans are starting to get on my back. :-)

FB: Radio channels from a year ago. My guess is 90% or more now require registration/payment. btw, my anger seems to make me strong.

A decent week for me, but at least my budget midfield is bringing home the bacon. Shame I had Lee Clark on the bench. Welcome back.

congrats to taupe for breaking the overall top 1000 for october.

worldcup is back, and all is well. I had a dream last night that there was a mistake in the points listing and i was back in first. Damn.

taupe, I held on to Paul Jones! What happened? Did someone buy him? Did Niemi get crocked? What? What?

Niemi strained his groin in the Carling Cup match. Jones is looking to start against City tomorrow. And I just freakin' bought Niemi. He'll be back.

Bad week for Alan and bad week for me. SF's got the lead back by 10 plus a 1- or 2-point sub. I'm waiting on more players, though.

Who's ALan? Bad week for jones, too. Good thing he's not my no.1 keeper. A good wkend so far for my F'd Off Dragons.

Chuffin Van de Saar is knackered.

posted by Fat Buddha at 07:57 AM on November 02, 2003

FB, if by knackered you mean not playing, that would be true. But as for invisible, in that game it was defined by Michael Owen whose name was only called for offsides. Still, three points against a team ahead of them in the table and who beat ManUre last week is surely welcome. SF, did you notice that Heskey was named Man of the Match (at least on Soccernet and the FSW coverage)? And who was there supporting him on that early goal? Danny Murphy. Kewell was another one who didn't have much of an outing.

Seeing as this has turned into yet another bloody Liverpool thread, have a link.

posted by Fat Buddha at 03:59 PM on November 02, 2003

Bad week for me so far, let's hope the Blues keep another clean sheet tomorrow. I watched the Fulham v Liverpool game. Owen did nothing except stray offside, in fact it'd probably be closer to the fact to say he occasionally strayed onside. Heskey scored a lovely goal. Murphy was solid as ever and of course scored the winning penalty. I can't believe how far back Gerrard is playing, is he training to be a central defender? Bright spark was Sinama Pongolle who came on for Owen, despite the fact that Heskey had been hobbling for 20 minutes, which tells you all about Owen's performance. Definite penalty and Pongolle won it so well. Star of the future, mark my words. (On preview, sorry FB. :-P )

posted by squealy at 04:01 PM on November 02, 2003

And then of course there's Leicester v Blackburn which was......zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

posted by squealy at 04:46 PM on November 02, 2003

I can't believe how far back Gerrard is playing, is he training to be a central defender? He sure wasn't being a field general, passing back into his defense nearly every time. Maybe LFC captains do have to be central defenders or at least play as if they are.

posted by billsaysthis at 04:57 PM on November 02, 2003

I'm going to need a hat trick from Clemence, Forssell and Cunningham to redeem anything from this week. More tinkering and another 8 bloody points thrown away today. I hate this game.

posted by Fat Buddha at 05:30 PM on November 02, 2003

They didn't have fookin' Henchoz until the 66th, so Gerard wasn't going to be taking any chances, given that he started a bunch of attackers: Owen, Heskey, Kewell, Smicer. Also, Stevie would not have had to play so deep if Hamann had played. He'll start moving up when Henchoz and Hamann are starters again. btw, I moved up in both leagues, and still have points coming from Cunningham and Hreidarrson. Go Blues! Go Charlton! Heh.

posted by worldcup2002 at 05:31 PM on November 02, 2003

Damn! In the yahoo league, I've been undone by the Fooker! Fiddlesticks!

posted by worldcup2002 at 05:47 PM on November 02, 2003

Undone by the Fooker... Heh heh... And squealy, what game were you watching?! Murphy didn't do shit the whole game, and how hard is it to make a penalty!?

posted by StarFucker at 09:39 AM on November 03, 2003

Murphy set up Heskey's goal, didn't he?

posted by billsaysthis at 11:29 AM on November 03, 2003

[continuing the threadjack] Who do you guys think Houllier will start up front on Thursday in the UEFA Cup match? I'm thinking maybe the two French kids because (a) Owens and Heskey could both use the rest ahead of the ManUre match, (b) this is the away leg so a draw or one goal loss can be made up in the return, and (c) they seem to be giving decent showings of themselves when played. Perhaps Diouf or Kewell matched with FSP in front and Le Tallec in attacking midfield...

posted by billsaysthis at 11:33 AM on November 03, 2003

No bill, that was Finnan who set up Heskey's goal. That's bollocks Starfucker, though I will admit I was watching it with a pint of lager in me hand. How hard is it to "make a penalty"? I assume you mean take a penalty, but Shearer missed his at the weekend so maybe it's not as easy as you may think, especially against a keeper like Crossley who's a renowned penalty-stopper.

posted by squealy at 11:44 AM on November 03, 2003

bill: Since Owen was reportedly bollocks and Heskey was limping like lame horse (he said horse!) toward the end, it may be a good idea indeed to rest the two. However, starting two youngsters in their place in a Euro match is not a better idea. That's something that might be done in a League Cup match against a Third Division team. They can, however, get Henchoz back in central defense, Hamann back in defensive midfield, push Gerrard up, and try Diouf, Kewell and Smicer upfront. And yes, Kewell and Pongolle up front might be a possibility. btw, I think Owen is going to start anyway, with Heskey rested. And where the hell is Riise?

posted by worldcup2002 at 12:27 PM on November 03, 2003

No he didn't bill, Finnan did.

posted by StarFucker at 01:50 PM on November 03, 2003

I like Pongolle...he's a quick little fucker. Boa Morte should be skinned for his challenge on him.

posted by StarFucker at 01:51 PM on November 03, 2003

Yeah, why wasn't Riise playing? That certainly cost me EPL Fantasy League points! Fucking Houllier! The two French players aren't that young--they're older than Wayne Rooney and Christian Ronaldo--and need more first team exposure. I'd much rather see FSP than Smicer, at least.

posted by billsaysthis at 02:27 PM on November 03, 2003

Riise wasn't playing because Houllier is a fuckwit.
