Lilnemo, this is beautiful. Thank you for doing this. Now, you should've waited until Wednesday's games were done. But I'm looking forward to your next update. Beautiful.

I'll just do the tally Wednesday and tack it on to this thread.

Prevaricators Utd manager comments: "Well, I'm obviously disappointed that we've slipped in the standings this week, but it's early doors, and we have a packed schedule this week. We're definitely in touch with the front runners, and have been making lots of chances. We just need to take more of them."

That table could well be reversed by midday today and some bloke who hasn't even entered could be leading by tea time.

Nice work Lilnemo. Who's who? Who's the cellar dwellar? woohoo! Second place with a bullet. Although I was away for the weekend and didn't have a chance to change up my team for the midweek games. I still don't understand where Mossy's 72 points came from in the first week, though.

Atlanta Untitled manager comments:
I'm outraged. Outraged at the Yahoo FA. Their arbitrary conduct has cost Untitled valuable points and quite possible a place in Europe. No result makes a season, but such incompetance early certainly sets a tone. However, I have complete faith in my lads. They'll pull through and complete a marvelous campaign (except for that Heskey fellow, whom I plan to sell for a bucket of Extra Crispy and a gallon of iced tea).

I want to say that even with two players not playing today (the Chelsea v Birmingham game was postponed, yahoo gits!), I have moved up a space. Therefore, after tomorrow's games, I am confident that I shall be in the top 3. Go on, Michael Owen, open that bank account, won't you?

22 shots on goal to Villa's 9. We were blasting them and not a goal to show. We started with all your fecking favorite players, Fooker! Murphy was only a sub at the 72nd minute. Heskey didn't play, period. Houllier started with a 2-5-3, the most attacking-minded formation I've ever seen from him. He started feckin' Diouf, Baros, Kewell, Smicer and Owen. And we didn't score one feckin' goal. At home! Holy crap! So much for your theories, Fooker. (OK, OK, he still played Carragher and benched Riise. But on all counts, this was not a conservative team.)

posted by worldcup2002 at 05:19 PM on August 27, 2003

I meant Spurs, not Villa. Same result (shit), different team.

posted by worldcup2002 at 05:19 PM on August 27, 2003

Why was Biscan in the middle of the defense? Even Riise would have been a better choice there!

posted by billsaysthis at 07:53 PM on August 27, 2003

Thats all fine and dandy worldcup...but the reason they didn't do well, even WITH the attacking lineup is because they don't have any EXPERIENCE with it.. I bet they don't even train to attack...Houllier is clueless about attacking/creative football. And if they aren't covering such tactics in training, how do you expect them to use it in an actual game? Houllier needs to leave! I TOLD you Kewell would be anonymous on this Liverpool team.

That is sad, SF, if it's true. That is very sad.

posted by worldcup2002 at 09:52 AM on August 28, 2003

It MUST be true... Houllier is a lost cause, and i don't think anyone else associated with the team currently is willing to help him. They are just hoping he has the balls to either resign already, failing that....letting him keep losing matches so the Board finally boots him. Notice how he says the criticism doesn't bother him but them sends out one of the most "attacking" formations i have seen in a few years... He is the Comical Ali of the Premiership. "Manchester United did NOT win the Premiership last year. Liverpool is currently at the top of the table...there are no reasons to worry. We are in complete control of this league."

SF: Who would replace the Houllier? And given your own experience as a manager, what's Houllier's next step? The pressure must be terrible. I mean, what do you think he will do? bill: Haha, you are being morose, bill. Altho I'm wondering if this is Liverpool's worst start ever. No wins after three matches, and only one goal scored, from a twice-taken penalty.

I mean, if he and the boys can't get up for that match, all hope is lost, and Houllier can twiddle with himself in the 'technical area' for the remainder of the year. Hey, the game is on FSW but at 9 a.m., want to come down for breakfast?

Damn, Yahoo got wise to the Mossy Correction factor - the numbers all add up properly now :) Only 8 points between sauril and I - come on the rest of you! I was planning mid-table mediocrity until a final late surge like last season - more dramatic that way ;) In the spirit of fostering competition and giving some lesser tried players a run out, Mossy Athletic WILL BE FIELDING A TEAM OF COMBINED VALUE 50 POINTS. Come on everybody! Take advantage of anti-Abrahamovic small spending spree of week 4 and get competitive! :D

posted by billsaysthis at 08:01 PM on August 30, 2003

Interesting read Bill... I would also add that Heskey and Murphy did nothing to help the 'Pool after coming on. I couldn't even find Murphy on the pitch and Heskey could have given Owen his hattrick if he knew how to cross. Due to Carragher's mistakes, Everton almost scored twice, maybe 3 times. Baros was great up front with Owen and Diouf was my Man Of The Match if not Dudek. Dudek was awesome today. I'm glad Kewell finally scored and he was the one who assisted Owen on the first. You were a bit hard on Gerrard as I thought he played ok. He made some nice midfield passes and came back on defense very well to make some important tackles. If Riise was in that game it could have been 5 or 6 nil. When i saw Heskey and Murphy getting off the bench i almost puked. But at that point we were up 2-0 and i was hoping there wouldn't be enough time for Liverpool to fall apart before the end of the game.

posted by StarFucker at 09:00 PM on August 30, 2003

I almost mentioned the Hesked One's greed in shooting over passing but since I was already implicitly being critical... Do you think there's any chance Houllier will try Diouf in the middle and Riise out wide? Or at least put Riise back in defense instead of JC?

posted by billsaysthis at 10:01 PM on August 30, 2003

Houllier doesn't like to play ANYONE in their natural position... He isn't the type of person that likes to admit he is wrong...thats why Heskey and Murphy keep playing in his lineup. The other reason why they are constantly showing up is because there is some rule that insists an English team play domestic players. I don't know exactly what the ratio is, but i am pretty sure that at least half the team has to be English, bench included. Buddha or squealy probably know what i am talking about.

posted by StarFucker at 02:12 AM on August 31, 2003

Oh my - all of my cut price players played :D And Angel even managed to get two goals! I should have stuck with sakho and owen though, doheth.. Unsatisfied at his teams reasonable performance, Manager Mossy is now laying off players left right and centre - who knows who will survive the cull? Postiga won't, thats for sure - what the hell were the Tottenham team on yesterday??

I don't know of any such rule SF (at least that applies to the Premiership), though it may have been introduced whilst I wasn't looking. I'm fairly convinced I've seen both Arsenal and Chelski field entirely non-English teams in the past.

posted by squealy at 03:21 PM on August 31, 2003

I'm a little confused because Tim Howard has rarely gotten starts for the US but he got a permit, while Convey started for us in the World Cup and at least one of the big tourneys this Summer.

Well if thats the case, then i REALLY don't know the reason for playing these muppets, unless Liverpool have an unspoken rule themselves that makes the club play shit ass domestic players regardless of how bad they perform...i am at a loss.

I might argue with you about Murphy, SF, but I won't argue with you about Heskey or Carragher. I don't think Houllier needs to play Heskey anymore. And why he continues to pick Carragher over Riise, I just don't know.

posted by worldcup2002 at 09:36 AM on September 02, 2003

Tell ya what... Lets keep a running tab on Liverpool and the games where Murphy, Carragher and Heskey play... So far we got: Chelsea, Murphy, Heskey and Carragher all started And they all stayed on. Lost 2-1 Aston Villa, Murphy-Heskey-Carragher all started Murphy came off 86, Heskey came off 58. 0-0 Tottenham, Carragher started Murphy came on 72. 0-0 Everton, Carragher started Murphy and Heskey came on 73, Liverpool was already winning 2-0. Won 3-0 I see a pattern developing already...

posted by StarFucker at 10:45 AM on September 02, 2003

I'm beginning to believe that Houllier is actually insane. I still rate Murphy, and he was one of the top-scoring FFL midfielders last year, however the system obviously wasn't working and needed tweaking. Heskey is a clown and given the choice of Carragher or Riise I'd go for Riise every time. Perhaps it should have been obvious when in a team crying out for a creative midfielder he consistently left Jari Litmanen on the bench. I say boot out Houllier before another season goes down the drain (if it hasn't already).

posted by squealy at 11:03 AM on September 02, 2003

I still rate Murphy, and he was one of the top-scoring FFL midfielders last year Did you see his goals? I would have made the same ones. They were penalties, free kicks and sitters. Being a top scorer in FF doesn't translate to performance in a game. Gerrard had maybe 3 goals last year, but without him Liverpool wouldn't be in the UEFA Cup, even...

posted by StarFucker at 11:20 AM on September 02, 2003

SF, that's an excellent list you're keeping. It would be awesome if we could get Houllier's email and send it to him. I'd love to see what happens when Heskey and Carragher don't start, and Baros and Riise are starters instead. I think the fact that Houllier didn't start conservatively in the Everton game is a step in the right direction. Based on your list, he may be slowly inching toward your ideal formation. That way he can say he gave the players every chance but they didn't perform, so now he's got to go with the new lineup. Going from a non-scoring side to beating their deadly rivals 3-0 is a good way to shore up that thinking. We are the champions ...
