Making Time Stand Still: Today, for a few hours, he's part of the crowd, just another fan watching Tom Glavine paint the black, just another daydreaming kid picturing himself running hard from first to third.

This was on the front page of ESPN last week, though it wasn't linked here. I apologize if anyone's already read it.

Thank you. That is a powerful article Gary. My father was a terrific baseball fan, and in his last few years, as his physical capabilities abandoned him, some of the most enjoyable moments of his days were watching baseball games. He preferred a Jays game, with Halladay pitching (as I do to this day), but any ball game would do. As I read along through the article, memories of times spent with my dad watching the game came flooding back to me. I miss him every day. You brought a smile to my face with this article. Thank you again.

That's a beautiful article, although reading it I'm reminded of the fragile humility of life, and the connection we all have. Well, everyone but me. This shit reminds me how isolated I am, disconnected from everyone. No one gives two craps about me, and why would they? If I could give my life to those people, I would, because lord knows I'm not using it and they'd enjoy it more.

Damn, Hal. Everything I can think to say sounds to me petty, because I don't know you. I can only express the one thing I do know, which is that there are about three people on this board whose insights I look most forward to, and you are in that small group. I don't mean that you should hang your hat on my simple sentiment, but please take it for whatever it's worth.

On the other hand, if you're yanking my chain, bugger off...

Thanks, justgary. Great article. I find it easy to get swallowed by work, family, to do lists, and sometimes it seems that weeks will go by in a flash. Kinda like a "it's almost August already?" thing. "Jeez, what did I do in June and July?" "Oh, and it's 2008 already too... Great." For me, this article has reminded me to stop, take a look around, and enjoy every moment. Make every minute count, and don't waste any of it.

Great article. There was a short NPR segment on this last year.
