I think the Pens should go out and get a thug, just as protection. I know it means they have to free up a roster spot, but they have other young stars besides Crosby and other teams need to know there will be a price to pay if they want to take the low road. I agree with the others, nice column Frazer.

I don't think they look at the entire playoff run when choosing the Super Bowl MVP (7 INTs). If they do, though, he deserved it for the second half of the Patriots game alone. As for the Bears defense, yes they were on the field entirely too long, but why were the safeties practically playing prevent the entire game. They gave the Colts the middle of the field, as evidenced by the performance of the RBs. If it was out of respect of Manning's arm, then he deserves the MVP for that reason as well.

Apparently the dude was unaware of the International Airspace restrictions. Hey, a bird's got to defend his airspace.

Alright, some kid in Africa has a Carolina Panthers Super Bowl Champion t-shirt on his back! I feel so much better now.

I'm a Panthers fan, so I'm used to watching a quarterback throw off his back foot into double coverage, but unlike my quarterback, Favre was once a great deal better. I know it's hard for these great athletes to hang them up, but when it's time, it's time.

I would have liked to see Art Monk in there. I agree with wingnut on Irvin. The place for an ethics lesson isn't on the Hall of Fame vote.

I've never hoped for a player on any team to suffer an injury, especially a career ending one. Here's hoping one or both of Bonds' gimpy knees finally blow short of 756.

I can only feel sorry for Ted Johnson. I don't blaim Belichick or the trainers, though. If a man knows he's hurt, it's his choice whether he goes back in. Yes, the coach can get pissed, even threaten him with his job, but he can't make him play. That being said, I really feel for Johnson and the quality of the remainder of his life. I really like the idea of the partially guaranteed contracts.

wfrazerjr, damn, I thought I was bitter toward organized religion. You make me look like a deacon. What would you have parents of small children do on Sunday mornings when they wish to attend church. Find a babysitter early on a Sunday morning so that the kids aren't getting brainwashed? Ever think they take the kids because the church provides free daycare while they worship? Ever think that maybe when the child becomes old enough the parents will respect his/her choice about whether or not to attend church? Careful, your personal issues are showing.

As I recall, UNC under Dean Smith got more than their fair share of calls. The same controversy that follows Coach K used to follow Smith. Just like in the NBA, the big names get the calls. It's unfortunate but the way it is.

True. Every NHL team has Europeans on it. It wouldn't be unlikely for that "who do I play for" situation to come about. Then, if the NHL team loses a guy, it's not the same team that won the cup.

I agree with Black Hand. She even gave the tennis world a much needed shot in the arm with a little smack talk the other day when she said when she's playing her best, there's no one on the women's tour who can beat her. She obviously speaks the truth.

Actually, the more ironic thing is that after winning, the Duke players tackled one another and rolled around on the floor just like Virginia Tech did when they beat Duke. That was when Coach K told some of the Tech players they were too classy and intelligent to behave in that manner. And despite my sign in name, I'm not a fan of any ACC school. I went to UNC Charlotte (undefeated in football yet again in 2006).

I don't know. I think this is the year Blake surpasses Roddick as the premier American on the tour. It doesn't matter, though. Nobody's going to touch Federer for years.

There goes Pau Gasol's entire defensive strategy. Is it any surprise that the best floppers come from countries where soccer is the predominant sport? Just an observation.

Looks like he throws a pretty mean left, though. I wish we could watch those matches here in the states. Not for the fighting, for the sport. I played a little American football growing up, but I never got my ass kicked like I did when I went out for the club rugby team in college. Those guys are nuts! Great game, though.

Obviously outsmarted, the league had to do something to counter the Vote_A_matic. It wasn't done in the best manner, but it had to be done. People who cry that Cheechoo doesn't deserve to be there are using a severe double standard. At least Cheechoo has been an All-Star quality player in his career. Rory hasn't been close.

I think the most recent rule changes that have made the league faster and more entertaining are great. I've never been much of a fan until this year, but man, it's a blast.

I don't know. I'd rather be a well off success than a filthy rich whore. (I use whore in the non-gender specific meaning of the word). She could obviously be very well off and a very good women's professional. I guess it's more important to her to be a mega-rich laughing stock.

dbt302, please tell me why Carolina would get rid of the coach who turned them around from a 1-15 team to a Super Bowl participant and 2 NFC Championship games. We had a down year (7-9), let's not get carried away.

C'mon, Dave Concepcion belongs in the Hall. His stats are as good as, if not better than HOF members Ozzie Smith, Luis Aparicio, PeeWee Reese, Phil Rizzuto, and Bill Mazeroski. He was an integral part of the Big Red Machine and dammit, he's my childhood idol.

FonGu, neither job you mention will be available in 1-2 years. Despite the disappointing season, we're quite satisfied with the job John Fox is doing with the Panthers, and Osborne at State will be there for years to come.

As a lifelong Cincy fan, I took it very personally when Pete confessed after lying for so many years. So personally that until very recently I've agreed with his lifelong ban from the sport. But now, with Bonds, McGwire, etc. to consider, I've decided to just let it be about the numbers on the field. If a player is not found to be using performance enhancing drugs, cheating in any form, betting on baseball, whatever while he is playing the game, let his numbers do the talking. Put them all in the HOF. We can debate their worthiness after the fact. Let Shoeless Joe in, let Pete in, let Barry and Mark in. Hell, place an asterisk after their names but let them in. The Hall of Fame should only be concerned with what the players did on the field, not their morals. I still hate Rose for lying to me, but damn it he deserves to be in the Hall.
