It is nice to see the Expos go out and acquire a high-priced player for once. It's hard not to root for them, if for no other reason than to mess with Bud's master plan! Why does everyone think the Expo's success will make Bud look bad? As far as I know, they're still not drawing many fans. So the better they do (without actually making the playoffs) the stronger his argument gets.

No one should really care about hitting streaks anyway. Hitting streaks are essentially random; for most of Luis Castillo's streak, teammate Derek Lee actually had a higher batting average over the same span. A streak of any length certainly isn't comparable to the really amazing feats, like Williams hitting .400 in 1941. So what's a few calls one way or another?

NBA's international shopping spree bodes ill for black players
Personally, I see his point but I think it's a bit early to make a judgement. It should not be surprising that a crop of mostly 22-or-23-year-olds with professional experience abroad are more fundamentally sound than the young high-schoolers who have been entering the league lately. The question is whether this is merely the beginning, or actually the high point, of the trend.
